2021

Class AA: Carmel 42, Buffalo Bennett 12

    Senior Dylan Shields gained 156 yards on just nine carries, scored three touchdowns, and made five tackles to lead Carmel to its first state football championship.

    Shields' 90-yard run capped a perfect game and season for Carmel, one in which it won all 13 games by 24 or more points.

    Senior defensive back Vincent Mazzamuto created early turnovers with a strip-sack and interception, setting up scores that staked Carmel to a 14-0 lead.

Class A: Syracuse CBA 32, Somers 31

    Jason Brunson intercepted a two-point conversion attempt with 1:19 left to preserve Syracuse CBA's victory in front of the home crowd at the Carrier Dome.

    Dan Anderson caught a Jordan Rae (27-for-39, 376 yards) TD pass and then threw to Brunson for the conversion and a 24-22 lead, then Rae hit Syair Torrence from 25 yards for a 32-22 lead.

    Somers fought back with a 37-yard field goal from Luke Savino midway through the fourth quarter, then forced a three-and-out and pulled within a point on Matt Kapica's 1-yard run.

    Somers lined up for a tying extra point, then took a timeout and brought its offense onto he field to play for the win, only to have Brunson snuff out the attempt.

Class B: Maine-Endwell 21, Pleasantville 12

    Mike Mancini answered Daniel Picart's 78-yard punt return for a touchdown with a 90-yard kickoff return for a score of his own, breaking the Pleasantville momentum and starting Maine-Endwell to victory. Mancini threw for 39 yards but rushed 13 times for 92 more.

    Mancini's first-quarter return cut into a 12-0 lead, and M-E took the lead for good in the third quarter when the senior quarterback rolled right on a fourth-and-6 snap to rambled 33 yards to the end zone. The Spartans opened the fourth quarter with a seven-minute drive culminating in Mancini's 18-yard touchdown pass to Aidan McHugh.

    Picart finished with 12 receptions for 152 yards, and Pleasantville QB Michael LaCapria finished 26 of 39 for 242 yards and a touchdown.

Class C: Chenango Forks 21, Schuylerville 0

    One week after rolling up 442 rushing yards to rout Dobbs Ferry in the semifinals, Schuylerville managed just 10 yards on 20 carries, ending a 20-game winning streak as Chenango Forks captured its seventh start crown since 2003.     Senior running back Dubbs Haqq scored second-half TDs on carries if 28 and 7 yards, finishing with 133 yards on the ground. The Blue Devils' rushing attack generated 263 yards on 49 carries. Chenango Forks did not punt once in the contest.

Class D: Tioga 27, Moriah 0

    Emmett Wood rushed for 169 yards and two scores, and Tioga iced the victory with a trio of fourth-quarter touchdowns.

    Caden Bellis (4 of 7, 89 yards) connected with Gavin Godfrey on a short completion and Godfrey roared down the left sideline for a 51-yard touchdown and 13-0 lead less than two minutes into the fourth quarter. Wood, who spearheaded a rushing attack that picked up 266 yards in 45 attempts, scored on runs of 6 and 3 yards in the final 8:49.

2020

    The NYSPHSAA did not conduct a tournament because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

2019

Class AA: New Rochelle 28, McQuaid Jesuit 0

    Jessie Parson rushed for 177 yards and two touchdowns as New Rochelle posted its first perfect season since 1980 en route to its third NYSPHSAA chapionship.

    Senior Darren Kabbawas selected the game's MVPafter leading the defensive effort with four sacks.

    In a late decision, the game was moved up from SUnday afternoon to Saturday evening in order to accommodate New Rochelle fans facing the prospect of returning home during an impending storm at the end of the Thanksgiving weekend. In another twist, New Rochelle played without coach Lou DiRienzo, who was reassigned by the school district four days before the Huguenots' state quarterfinal game.

Class A: Cornwall 30, Carthage 27

    Cornwall, trailing 21-9 in the second quarter, completed its second straight 12-0 season and extended its winning streak to 24 games by ralling past Carthage at the Carrier Dome.

    Dragons senior running back Amin Woods carried 35 times for 226 yards and three touchdowns. His 16-yard TD run gave Cornwall its final lead with 8:48 remaining, and fill-in quarterback Louie Francese converted a late fourth-and-1 deep in Carthage territory to allow the victors to run out the clock.

    Francese, who finished 11 of 15 for 130 yards and rushed for another 89 yards, moved from receiver to quarterback following a midseason injury to Aidan Semo.

    Carthage quarterback Nick Cavellier finished 11 of 13 for 258 yards.

Class B: Chenango Forks 38, Schuylerville 14

    Chenango Forks broke open a 6-6 game late in the first half and rode running back Lucas Scott's 305 yards and three touchdowns to its sixth state crown and fourth in the past seven seasons.

    Sophomore Dubbs Haqq rushed for 108 yards and Forks' first and last TDs, and Jack Zimmerman intercepted two passes.Schuylerville tied the game 1:24 after a Forks score as Owen Sherman found Jack Dwyer with a 44-yard TD pass, but the Blue Devils then kicked into high gear. Ray Austin connected with Ethan Brown for a 33-yard TD in the waning seconds of the half for an 18-6 advantage, and Forks opened the third quarter with a 12-play, 66-yard drive capped by Scott's 4-yard run.

    Most Valuable Player Logan Haskell rushed for 199 yards and three teammates scored TDs as Susquehanna Valley went back-to-back.

    The Sabers limited Gouverneur to 45 first-half yards en route to their fifth shutout and handing the Wildcats their first shutout loss of the season.

    The Sabers drove 12 plays and 76 yards to a 16-0 lead 42 seconds before halftime, then denied the Wildcats after they'd driven 63 yards to SV's 2-yard line on the opening third-quarter possession.

    Cam Barmore's 37-yard touchdown pass capped a three-play drive to give CSP the lead for good with 2:30 left in the first quarter and open a string of seven consecutive scoring possessions.

    The Wolfpack needed just two plays to turn its next possession into six points as Brendon Ramsey scored on a 26-yard run after John Swabik opened the possession with a 25-yard burst. Connor Cooper (10 carries, 55 yards) rushed for the first of his two touchdowns to make it 20-0, and then Zavon Overton caught a 2-yard pass before halftime.

2018

Class AA: Aquinas Institute 21, New Rochelle 14

    Caron Robinson (16 carries, 150 yards) ran for two scores and Tyler Szalkowski hit Ulysees "Manny" Russell from five yards out for the deciding touchdown midway through the fourth quarter as Aquinas captured its record eighth New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship. Russell's third-down catch capped a 12-play, 60-yard drive.

    Senior back James Jones recorded a pair of third-quarter interceptions deep in Aquinas territory and made 15 tackles to lead the Little Irish defense and earn game MVP honors.

    Jordan Forrest had pulled New Rochelle even early in the fourth quarter with a 5-yard run for his second touchdown of the contest.

Class A: Cornwall 21, West Seneca East 14

    Steven Gazzillo's 1-yard touchdown run with 53 seconds left broke a 14-14 tie, and Alex Suarez capped Cornwall's victory with an interception at the Green Dragons' 19-yard-line.

    Workhorse tailback Amin Woods carried 34 times for 205 yards, capping a 1,798-yard junior campaign. His work offset that of WSE's Shaun Dolac (26 carries, 178 yards), who rushed for two touchdowns and scored a third on a reception. Dolac also made seven tackles.

    The Dragons' game-winning drive nearly stalled before a huge 27-yard catch and run completion from Aidan Semo (11-for-21, 187 yards) to Louie Francese on a third-and-6 play. Gazzillo pushed four plays later.

Class B: Glens Falls 55, Batavia 32

    Senior quarterback and game MVP Joe Girard III (10-for-18, 314 yards) passed for two touchdowns and ran for two more, and sophomore Aalijah Sampson rushed for 135 yards and four scores as Glens Falls fought off a monster effort by Batavia star Ray Leach.

    Batavia broke to a 14-0 lead, but Girard connected with David Barclay on a 33-yard TD on a fourth-and-13 snap to conclude the opening possession of the second half and give Glens Falls a 28-20 advantage.

    Leach finished with 414 yards on 30 rushes and four touchdowns, including an 83-yard effort in the second quarter and an 80-yard dash for the game's last touchdown, but the offense was hampered after QB Ethan Biscaro left with a non-contact injury to his right knee with a 4:03 to play in the first quarter.

    Leach rolled up 1,645 yards over the season's final four contests and finished the season with 2,993 yards on the ground.

Class C: Susquehanna Valley 27, Dobbs Ferry 6

    Quarterback Jarred Freije ran for 104 yards and three touchdowns in his return after being knocked out of the NYSPHSAA Class C semifinal vs. Cleveland Hill by a second-quarter injury.

    Freije capped the Sabers' first possession with a 1-yard touchdown run, and Susquehanna Valley never trailed.

    John Swabik completed a fourth-and-21, hook-and-ladder collaboration early in the fourth quarter build a two-score lead and spark CSP to the Class D championship at the Carrier Dome.

   The pivotal play began with a completion from Garrett Hinsdale (14-for-26, 240 yards) to Cam Barmore, who lateraled to Swabik to complete the 30-yard play. Swabik had opened the scoring early in the second quarter with a 32-yard TD reception.

    After Moriah pulled to within 19-6 midway through the fourth qyarter, Michael Beatman sealed the victory with a 13-yard interception return for the game's final touchdown.

    CSP outgained Moriah by 351-153.
